NEENAH, Wis. (WBAY) - Two Neenah police officers turned a routine traffic stop into a rescue mission when they heard the desperate cries of a kitten trapped in a storm drain.
Officers Travis Koponen and Eric McLevige were conducting a traffic stop along Marathon Ave. on their night shift when they heard persistent meowing coming from nearby. The officers investigated the sound and discovered its source.
The officers found a cold and frightened kitten that had fallen into a street sewer.
Koponen and McLevige successfully retrieved the kitten from the drain and transported the animal to safety at the Neenah Animal Shelter, where it can receive proper care and warmth.
