PRESQUE ISLE COUNTY, MI -- A new case of bovine tuberculosis has been confirmed in Presque Isle County, in Michigan’s northern tip of the Lower Peninsula.

Bovine TB is a bacterial disease that can affect all mammals, including humans. The disease often spreads from wild, white-tailed deer.

The case was reported during an annual herd surveillance, according to Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD).

This is the first bovine TB-infected herd detected in the state since January 2025.

“Bovine TB is a persistent and challenging disease to address,” said State Veterinarian Nora Wineland, DVM, MS, DACVPM.
