Spartan Stadium is closing for the year.

Michigan State (3-6, 0-6 Big Ten) hosts Penn State (3-6, 0-6) on Saturday (3:30 p.m., CBS) in the final home game of the regular season.

Skid snapped

The battle for the Land Grant Trophy features a pair of teams that are both riding six-game losing streaks and winless in Big Ten play. Penn State opened the year No. 2 in the AP Top 25 and fired coach James Franklin in October after a third straight defeat. Michigan State also hasn’t won in two months and coach Jonathan Smith might not make it to year three.

One of the teams will end their ugly skid with a win that will technically keep them alive for a bowl game. They’ll fittingly celebrate by hoisting one of the ugliest rivalry trophie
