A woman with several active warrants attacked two officers during an arrest outside a Route 46 hotel on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in Wayne, authorities said.

The incident began at approximately 6:17 p.m., when Wayne Police Officers Harrison Kirby and Louis Trentacost were patrolling the parking lot of the Quality Inn on Route 46. The officers recognized the occupant of a Volkswagen, Galaxistar Douglas, from a previous arrest, Police Chief Joseph Rooney said.

A warrant check showed Douglas had multiple active criminal warrants for her arrest. When officers approached and told her she was being taken into custody, Douglas became argumentative and told the officers that she was not going to allow them to arrest her, according to Rooney.

Officers tried to de-escalate, but Douglas became more hostile and refused to engage further. When police attempted to remove her from the vehicle, she “refused to let go of the steering wheel and began to kick Officers Kirby and Trentacost,” the chief said.

Douglas was pulled from the car but continued fighting as officers tried to handcuff her. During the struggle, she bit Officer Kirby on the arm, Rooney said After she was restrained and brought to her feet, Douglas spit on Officer Trentacost’s face as officers tried to move her to a patrol car.

At police headquarters, Douglas “continued spitting wildly and screaming.” She was moved to a holding cell, but when officers attempted to transport her for medical evaluation, she “refused to exit the cell and had to be physically extracted by multiple officers,” police said.

Douglas was evaluated at a hospital, released, and taken to the Passaic County Jail Intake Hub. Officer Kirby received medical treatment for the bite wound, police said.

Douglas was charged with Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Assault (two counts), Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of a Governmental Function, and Throwing Bodily Fluids at Law Enforcement, according to police.
