PARADISE, MI — Despite harsh weather and difficult terrain, construction is wrapping up on a new way to experience Tahquamenon Falls.
The 900-foot boardwalk, which began last October, is nearing completion. It replaces the park’s steep 94-step staircase with an accessible, winding path through the forest, opening up to a spectacular view of the 200-foot-wide Upper Falls.
In the video captured above, you can see the new walkway taking shape. It features anti-slip surfacing, railings, and mesh siding for safety, along with five landings that offer benches and views of the Tahquamenon River and surrounding old-growth trees of cedar, spruce and hemlock.
The final deck brings you right to the brink of Michigan’s largest waterfall. 41
