The Mets may want him back, and Edwin Díaz says he still loves New York — but on Thursday, he made one thing clear: his chances of returning next season are “50-50” as he tests free agency.
Díaz’s remarks came on the red carpet at the MLB Awards show, where he won his third Reliever of the Year award.
“As of now, I would say it’s 50-50,” Díaz said, via The New York Post . “We haven’t talked about a deal. We just met a little bit, and I just want to see what happens in free agency.”

This doesn’t mean Díaz won’t be back with the Mets next season. He’s made it clear at the end of the regular season that he’d love to return — “I love this organization,” he said — even if he did exercise his opt-out clause.
The Mets will be interested in a reunion as well,
