The defending West Division-champion Spitfires opened a double-digit lead atop the division early in the season. Article content Article content

The gap on that lead has been slowly cut into and it shrank a little more on Thursday after the Sault Ste. Marie erased a pair of two-goal leads to beat the Spitfires 4-3 in overtime at the WFCU Centre.

“Whenever you play a division game, you want to get those two points,” Spitfires’ forward Ethan Belchetz said.

Windsor is now 1-3-1 in its last five games against West Division teams and the Greyhounds have cut the gap on the Spitfires to six points.
