Michigan hunters are in for one of the warmest opening days in the past decade for firearm deer hunting this weekend, Nov. 15-16.

Firearm season lasts from Nov. 15-30 across Michigan and not only will the season kick off on a Saturday, but the weather is forecast to be among the warmest since 2015, according to the National Weather Service's historical temperature data .

Hunters typically prefer cooler weather, both because fresh kills last longer and because snow helps provide better tracking. Deer also may move more or less because of the temperature.

Temperatures in the Lower Peninsula will range in the upper 50s and 60s, with the Ann Arbor area seeing the warmest predicted high of 64 degrees on Nov. 15. In the Upper Peninsula temperatures are expected to range in the 40s and 50s.
