ARGENTA, Ill. (WAND) - A Decatur man has died after being run over by a truck in Argenta, according to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the 100 block of Claremont Street around 3 p.m. Thursday for a report of an injury involving a street leaf vacuum.

When they arrived, they found a truck towing a trailer equipped with the vacuum that had been clearing leaves along neighborhood streets.

Deputies said a man who had been riding on the truck fell off and was run over by the wheels of the trailer. The victim, identified as 50-year-old William Whitsel of Decatur, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.
