The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has achieved a remarkable victory in the Bihar assembly elections, securing 206 out of 243 seats. This outcome not only confirms the NDA's dominance but also highlights the challenges faced by the opposition bloc, the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). The INDIA bloc struggled due to internal conflicts and failed seat-sharing negotiations, leading to fragmented votes that benefited the NDA.
By the end of the counting, the INDIA bloc was leading in only 33 seats, while the NDA's stronghold allowed it to consolidate its position. Political analysts noted that the internal rifts within the opposition, driven by local ambitions and ego clashes, significantly weakened their chances. In key constituencies, such as Kahalgaon and Sultanganj, the division of opposition votes allowed NDA candidates to gain a substantial lead. For instance, in Kahalgaon, RJD's Rajnish Bharti received 37,047 votes, trailing behind JD(U)'s Subhanand Mukesh, who garnered 61,126 votes. Similarly, in Sultanganj, Congress nominee Lalan Kumar's 1,868 votes contributed to the NDA's advantage.
Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), a part of the NDA, emerged as a significant player, winning or leading in 19 constituencies. This marked an impressive increase of 1,800% compared to the previous election, where the LJP had a minimal presence. The party's success has solidified Chirag Paswan's position within the NDA and may set the stage for future political contests.
Despite exit polls predicting a clear win for the NDA, the actual results exceeded expectations, raising questions about the accuracy of these polls. Previous elections in Bihar have shown a pattern of exit polls misjudging the final outcomes, as seen in the 2020 and 2015 elections. The 2025 results reaffirm this trend, with the NDA's victory far surpassing the predictions made by various agencies.
As the political landscape in Bihar continues to evolve, the NDA's sweeping victory underscores the need for the opposition to address its internal divisions and strategize effectively for future elections.
