High-profile projects at some of Oregon’s most iconic state parks have been put on hold as the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department grapples with a $14 million shortfall.

The state agency announced Nov. 13 that plans for a new campground at Silver Falls State Park and visitor’s center at Smith Rock State Park, in the works for years, will be paused.

It’s the latest hit to an agency facing declining revenue and rising costs. Last week, OPRD announced plans to raise fees on campsites, yurts, cabins and parking passes in 2026 .

Now, they’re looking to hold down costs by putting some big-ticket projects on hold “until additional funding is available,” OPRD said in a news release.
