MINERVA ‒ The village's Community Center is closed until further notice over safety concerns, officials said.

A Nov. 12 news release was posted on the village's website and Facebook page.

Greg Mytinger, the village administrator, said Nov. 13 that the 100-year-old former factory turned community center had fallen on hard times structurally. It was mainly a rental facility for events, including fundraisers and benefit dinners.

The decision to close the center at 123 Brock Ave., effective immediately, followed a recommendation from the Stark County Building Department.

Mytinger said the issues at the center have been a source of discussions for years, and, "nobody in the community is shocked" by the closure.
