FLINT, MI - Concerns about transparency and hopes for economic revival collided as roughly 200 people packed into Ballenger Field House on Thursday night for a public forum on the proposed megasite in Mundy Township.
People in the audience on Nov. 13 questioned the future of a 1,300-acre industrial site in Mundy Township - approximately 10 miles west of Flint - where homes are still being demolished months after semiconductor manufacturer Sandisk abandoned its planned $63 billion project there .
The state spent $261 million to acquire and prepare the property, part of a broader effort to attract large-scale employers.
Sandisk had pledged roughly 10,000 jobs before walking away in July, reigniting debate over how Michigan uses public money to lure private development.
