The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a warning about the misuse of antibiotics. Antibiotics, which are used to treat or prevent certain types of bacterial infections by killing bacteria or preventing their spread, are not effective for all ailments.

A recent report from the health agency reveals that deaths linked to antibiotic resistance increased to an estimated 2,379 in 2024. The guidance advises: "Use antibiotics only when prescribed - don't share or save leftovers. Together we can slow resistance."
