A 38-year-old Maryland man was arrested and charged after authorities in New Jersey said he had sexually explicit conversations with an undercover agent posing as a 13-year-old girl.

An investigation into Cristobal Slobodzian, a Hyattsville resident, began in July when he used teen chat application to contact someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, but was actually an undercover agent with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll and Morris County Chief of Detectives Robert M. McNally said.

Slobodzian engaged in sexually explicit conversations with the 13-year-old persona, and sent numerous pictures of his genitals, authorities said.

Working with police in Prince George's County, officers searched his residence on Wednesday, Nov. 12, and Slobodzian was arrested and charged with attempted sexual assault, attempted endangering the welfare of a child and attempted obscenity, authorities said.

Slobodzian is detained in Maryland, and awaiting extradition to New Jersey, authorities said.
