This is not how it was supposed to go for Jonnu Smith, coming off the best season of his NFL career, reuniting with his former play-caller and being traded to an organization willing to extend his contract for another year.
Nine games into his Steelers tenure, Smith has not built on that 2024 campaign. Instead, he’s fifth on the team in receiving yards (163) despite being tied for second in targets (36) and ranking third in receptions (26). Smith has just two touchdowns after catching eight last year with the Dolphins.
“Just trying to be the best version of myself,” Smith said Friday before practice. “It doesn’t always go your way, man, but it’s about winning games. I want to produce in a way that turns into wins. However that plays out, we’ve got to get in that win column.”
