Toronto Police have quietly told members it may end it’s 25-year mobile crisis intervention team program at the end of next year, the Star has learned.
Known as mobile crisis intervention teams, or MCITs, the service told members in an internal memo last week that they would be “undertaking a review” of the program “to ensure our approach aligns with evolving community needs and best practices,” said the memo shared with the Star.
But the memo then goes on to say it is possible the program will end altogether: “While there is no fixed implementation timeline, the Service anticipates that the current MCIT program may sunset by late 2026.”
