A person held in the Greene County jail died after jail staff late Thursday found them in their cell with a towel around their neck, a news release from the sheriff's office states.
Jail staff doing a security check around 11:49 p.m. found the person, whose name and gender weren not included in the release, unresponsive, the release states. Staff performed CPR until emergency medical services arrived just after midnight, and the inmate was declared deceased at an area hospital.
The inmate was alone in a two-person cell, and jail staff had last spoken with them when lights out was called around 10:39 p.m., the release states. Staff notified Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder and he arrived at the jail around 12:11 a.m.
