Drivers in the southern Twin Cities area will need to navigate around a major freeway closure this weekend.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation said the closure will affect a long stretch of Interstate 494 in Bloomington — first the westbound lanes, and eventually in both directions.
Westbound I-494 will close between Highway 77 and Highway 100 beginning at 10 p.m. Friday. That closure runs through early Monday.
Eastbound I-494 will close between I-35W and Highway 77 for just part of the weekend — from 10 p.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Sunday.
During those closures, traffic will be detoured to Highway 62, the Crosstown.
The closures are part of the ongoing, multi-year construction project along I-494 -- including preparing that work zone for winter.
