A former Michigan High School Athletic Association soccer official was charged this week with assault and battery after an on-field incident during a state playoff game in October, the Michigan State Police said.
The now-former MHSAA referee, Randall S. Smith, 64, was charged with the misdemeanor in 86th District Court in Grand Traverse County on Thursday, Nov. 13, in connection with a reported incident between him and a teenaged Gaylord High School soccer team manager during a state playoff game in October in Traverse City, according to the Michigan State Police .
Smith posted a $100 bond. If found guilty , Smith faces a fine of up to $500 dollars and a maximum of 93 days in jail, Noelle Moeggenberg, the prosecuting attorney for Grand Traverse County told the Petoskey News-Re
