A huge cannabis farm was found inside a three-storey building police said had been 'extensively modified' for the 'large-scale' production of the drug.

Police teams swooped before dawn on Friday to smash into the former commercial building in Rochdale town centre - a derelict former shoe store.

Angle grinders were used to cut through roller-shutter security doors. Inside, police found more than 400 plants over all three floors.

Greater Manchester Police said the plants 'were almost ready for harvest'. Two arrests were made after the operation on Drake Street in the town.
