HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - It’s a somber day in Huntington, with the city pausing to remember the 75 lives lost 55 years ago in the Marshall University plane crash.
On this date in 1970, the plane carrying the Marshall University football team, coaches, and supporters crashed while trying to land at the Huntington Tri-State Airport.
All 75 people on board were killed, and it is the deadliest sports tragedy in the nation’s history.
This is a live look at Marshall’s Student Center as the annual fountain ceremony gets underway.
This hour the fountain will be turned off for the winter season.
