LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has announced her intent to intervene in DTE Energy’s latest request to increase natural gas rates by $237 million annually.

The utility filed its proposal Thursday with the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) .

If approved, the plan would raise natural gas bills by an average of 10% for DTE customers, including at least an 8% increase for residential ratepayers.

DTE currently provides natural gas to 1.3 million customers statewide and electricity to roughly 2.2 million customers in Southeast Michigan.

This latest request follows last year’s $113 million natural gas rate increase, less than half of what DTE initially sought after Nessel challenged the proposal .
