This man's credentials unexpectedly caught the attention of the Jonas Brothers.
Scott Kelly's resume went viral on social media after a fan captured it being reviewed by a Jonas Brothers concert attendee at a recent show in Buffalo, New York, on Nov. 9, according to Storyful.
The video, filmed by Jen Wilson, racked up more than 50 million views on TikTok. It reached the pop-rock band, prompting them to leave comments vouching for Kelly: "I'm one of Kelly's references," Kevin Jonas said.
Joe Jonas added, "Bro, Scott Kelly was there for me plenty of times. Hired."
The clip left the Jonas Brothers wondering whether Kelly had landed the gig. They got their answer days later on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Nov. 13 when Fallon introduced Kelly to them on stage for the first time.
Did Kelly get the job?
On the show, Kelly explained that he learned from a friend that his resume was circulating online while he was in class for his master's program. He didn't have TikTok, so initially, he didn't think the resume was his.
Kelly said that a day later, he started to receive a slew of messages. He explained, "I actually download TikTok, go look at the original video and go, 'Yeah, that's me.'"
According to Kelly, he was able to confirm it was his resume because the man looking at it in the video, identified as Brandon, reached out to him on Veteran's Day and, surprisingly, he had his number saved in his phone.
"Turns out he and I were in the same infantry battalion in the U.S. Army back in 2014 up at Fort Drum," Kelly said. They both took different paths in the military, but "now we find out we're both in Upstate New York working on the civilian side. It's a small world."
Kelly revealed on Jimmy Fallon's show that he never applied for a position, explaining that Brandon works for a company in Buffalo and "goes out of his way to hire veteran talent in the area." However, the situation has led the two to connect.
Kelly admits to not knowing the Jonas Brothers
Kelly admitted that he was not familiar with the Jonas Brothers before the viral moment.
"I had never heard of you before this," Kelly said to the group and the audience. "My wife had to tell me. I didn't have Disney Channel growing up. I didn't know!"
"I'm a huge fan now," he added. "Love you guys."
A video posted on the Jonas Brothers' TikTok account shows the group singing their song "Backwards" with Kelly in the background.
"LOUUUDER because we found Scott Kelly," the caption said.
