MANSFIELD, Conn — Investigators have identified human remains found at Mansfield Hollow Lake in October as those belonging to a man who had been missing for over 20 years.
State police detectives and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) found that the DNA from the human remains matches that of Robert Cavanaugh, of Mansfield, who was 51 when he was reported missing on Dec. 24, 2004.
Firefighters from the Mansfield Fire Dept. discovered human remains floating in the water at Hollow Lake on Oct. 5, and state police were called to investigate, along with the Eastern District Major Crime Squad, the Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection, state police K-9 units, and the Emergency Services Unit Dive Team.
