Odisha is reeling under an intensified cold wave as temperatures across the state continue to plummet, marking the coldest spell of the season so far. For the first time this year, the mercury dipped to 6°C, with Semiliguda recording the lowest minimum temperature at 6.3°C on Thursday night.

The biting cold has led to a noticeable decline in early morning activities, as dense fog and icy winds have gripped several regions.

Kandhamal’s Phulbani, one of the coldest zones in the state, experienced a minimum temperature of 8.2°C, leaving residents wrapped in layers. The cold wave has also tightened its hold on at least 10 major towns, where the minimum temperature fell below 12°C, signaling a widespread and severe winter onset across interior as well as coastal Odisha.
