DALLAS — After seven weeks, the longest government shutdown in U.S. history is ending, but only because eight Senators in the Democratic caucus joined Republicans after a protracted holdout.

The funding bill – which funds the government through January 30, 2026 – then passed the U.S. House before receiving President Donald Trump’s signature.

Congresswoman Julie Johnson , D-32nd District, who did not vote for the measure, says she immediately started hearing from her constituents.

“They’re upset. I’ve heard quite a bit from folks very, very upset with how this process has handed down,” the Democrat told us on Inside Texas Politics. “They’re very happy that I stood up and fought for healthcare.”
