SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois drivers were issued a reminder for the upcoming season.

The Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources are telling drivers to watch out for deer as they enter peak mating season. Their movements and chances for collisions are said to be increasing particularly at dusk and dawn through December.

Illinois Transportation Secretary Gia Biagi said that deer can appear suddenly and in unexpected places.

"If you do see deer, the safest choice is to stay in your lane, brake firmly and avoid swerving in traffic to avoid them," said Biagi.
