OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - In sentencing a former Marion County Sheriff’s deputy convicted of accidentally shooting his girlfriend, a judge paid homage to the young woman he killed.

Leslie Boileau Jr., 33, was sentenced to 25 years, 8 months, and 20 days in prison on Friday. The sentence length equals Polina Wright’s age on the day she died.

Boileau was convicted last month on the charge of manslaughter involving the use of a firearm. The maximum sentence was 30 years.

On Sept. 19, 2024, authorities say that after consuming several alcoholic drinks, Boileau decided to show Wright how to aim and clean his firearms.
