Ben Rice's breakout season was a pleasant development for the New York Yankees, but his long-term fit with the ballclub is still intriguing.
Rice proved this year that he can maul right-handed pitching, and on top of handling first-base duties on an everyday basis, he can be an adequate backup catcher. So the question for Yankees manager Aaron Boone to sort out is how often Rice should be in the lineup against lefties, and whether he should continue getting a chunk of starts behind the plate.
But there's one more side of the story, which is that teams will certainly be interested in trading for Rice after the season he just had (26 home runs, 131 OPS+). Moving him could theoretically allow the Yankees to acquire a controllable starting pitcher, while spending some money in free agency on
