AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Richmond County crews blocked portions of Old Waynesboro Road on Friday after smoke was reported in the area near Mike Padgett Highway.
Smoke was first seen around noon, according to witnesses. As of 2 p.m., law enforcement officers were still on scene and restricting traffic.
The Georgia Forestry Commission arrived on scene around 2 p.m.
Crews appear to be in the woods in the area.
Our News 12 crew was at the BP gas station near the intersection. Photos taken from the gas station show a heavy law enforcement presence.
Both sides of Old Waynesboro Road were initially blocked. One lane has since reopened.
