LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - As head of the UofL Health Burn Unit, Dr. Matt Bozeman said his team mobilized all available resources as soon as the call came in on the evening of Nov. 4 about the crash of a UPS MD-11 cargo jet that eventually claimed 14 lives.

Bozeman said the day shift was about to leave when the facility learned of the air disaster. There were already 12 nurses on the floor, Bozeman said, but it didn’t take long for those numbers to rise.

“People who weren’t even scheduled to come in, did come in to work, the emergency room was full of staff, and everybody was just looking for someone to help,” said Bozeman, who added his team uptrains on a regular basis for catastrophes. “We did a drill at the airport a few weeks ago talking about mass casualty events.”
