A grocer in Sharbot Lake is taking action after ongoing issues with customers stealing expensive grocery items.

For the past six months, Gordon Dean, a small-town grocery store owner who operates five Mike Dean Local Grocer locations, including the one in Sharbot Lake, has had people coming into his store and not just committing petty thefts, but stealing expensive items such as meat, fish and cheese.

“It’s gotten to the point where we have people that are coming in fairly regularly with specially-outfitted coats with tons of extra pockets, or bags that are outfitted that are easy to get into, or purses that are emptied out,” Dean said. “They’re coming in with a specific reason of taking 10, 15 or even 20 packages off the shelf and into this purse or coat and then d
