Sam Gilbert, the late father of real estate titan Dan Gilbert, owned a beloved tavern in Detroit in the 1960s. Today, the Gilbert family is giving the place new life.
A collaboration with NoHo Hospitality Group , the New York City-based firm from chef Andrew Carmellini that has San Morello, Evening Bar and Penny Red’s along with other Detroit establishments in its portfolio, Saksey’s assumes the name of Sam’s bar, keeping its legacy alive with a new post at the subterranean level of Gilly’s Clubhouse — another NoHo Hospitality joint.
