NORTH DAKOTA — After nearly nine years supporting Northeast Judicial District judges, Ashley Samuelson has been selected to serve as the district's newest judge.

Samuelson was appointed by Gov. Kelly Armstrong Wednesday, Nov. 12, according to a press release from the governor's office. She told the Grand Forks Herald she's excited to officially step into her role Friday, Nov. 28.

"I think that I've been a good asset as a staff attorney, and I hope to be able to do much more as a district court judge," she said.

As a staff attorney, Samuelson has assisted with civil and felony-level trials by conducting legal research, finding answers as new evidence raises questions and helping everything run smoothly. She described a staff attorney's role generally as working behind the scenes to help
