A female chimpanzee enjoyed some brief newfound freedom at a Midwest zoo.
According to staff at the Indianapolis Zoo, the chimp briefly escaped her enclosure around 10 a.m. on Friday.
The zoo was immediately locked down, per emergency protocol, and all guests were escorted to secure locations after the chimpanzee was seen outside her exhibit.
The chimpanzee was sedated and taken back to her exhibit, zoo staff said.
There were no injuries to guests or the animal, and the zoo has reopened as normal.
Located in the White River State Park, the zoo draws around 1.2 million visitors annually, making it a major attraction in Indianapolis.
