Donovan Williams Jr. was surrounded by family and friends before and after he made his college choice official by signing to play basketball for UCF on Friday morning. Lots of hugs were given and pictures taken at Oak Ridge High School’s gymnasium, decorated for the occasion and occupied by much of the student body.
Williams, a dynamic 6-foot-3 guard born and bred in Orlando, was clearly moved by the support — illustrated with a Hometown Hero poster. He’s back home for his senior year and college career after playing last season for the remotely located Oak Hill Academy basketball factory in Virginia.
“I really wanted to be back here for my senior year,” Williams said. “And UCF felt like family. They really welcomed me. I want to be a leader who will help UCF get to March Madness.”
