Five people were injured Thursday evening in multiple crashes involving 18 vehicles on Interstate 83 in York County, police said.
Pennsylvania State Police were notified around 6:30 p.m. of a multi-vehicle crash on I-83 north in Fairview Township. They later discovered there were multiple, separate crashes in the same area, between exit 36 for PA 262 — Fishing Creek and exit 39A for PA 114 — Lewisberry Road.
The largest crash involved nine vehicles, including two commercial vehicles, according to state police.
Police said local fire departments and EMS assisted with the heavy traffic backlog and with treating injured occupants.
Five people were taken to hospitals to be evaluated, police said. Their conditions as of Friday are unknown. Police said no one was killed in any of the crash
