BOARDMAN - Boardman Police are investigating after a man fell victim to a scammer impersonating a minister at his church.
According to a police report, the victim received an email on Monday, November 10 from someone claiming to be the minister at his church.
Police say the scammer asked him to purchase five Target or Apple gift cards, each valued at $100 to donate to a sick woman, telling him that he'd be reimbursed via check or email.
When the man purchased the gift cards, police say he was told to reveal the codes and send snapshots of them via email. The man told police he did not know how to do that, so he dropped the gift cards off at the church.
