BOARDMAN - A Boardman woman lost more than $220,000 after falling victim to an online dating scam on Facebook.
The woman told police she had met someone on Facebook Dating in July of 2025 who told her he was in the logging business and needed help because his equipment had broken down and he had lost his credit card.
Police say the woman gave the man some money, as well as some Apple gift cards. From there, the woman told police "one thing led to another" and she wound up sending him a total of $220,399.34 over the course of three months.
The woman told police she called her bank to stop the original money transfer from her bank to a PNC Bank somewhere in Colorado, followed by hiring a private investigator and enlisting the help of her brother and sister to help track down the mone
