John Beam, a former football coach for Laney College who was featured in Netflix’s “Last Chance U” series, was shot Thursday in Oakland, California.

The shooting occurred around Noon on Thursday on the school’s campus in the Laney Field House, according to a news release from the Peralta Community College District. Beam was immediately transported to a local hospital following the incident, where he is currently being treated, Oakland Police Department Assistant Chief James Beere said at a news conference .
