Residents of Sanford are still experiencing unpleasant odors from the local wastewater treatment plant after a temporary fan intended to alleviate the issue failed.
The city installed a temporary exhaust fan blower in October to help remove the smell while they wait for the permanent fan.
City Manager Norton Bonaparte Jr. said the fan's failure is likely due to it not being specifically designed for this application, which requires continuous operation.
In the meantime, they plan to secure another temporary fan to help alleviate the smell.
City Commissioner Sheena Britton said the community has been dealing with this issue for far too long.
"I have expressed my frustration repeatedly about the ongoing mismanagement, poor planning, and lack of urgency within this process," Britton said
