COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Fire Department crews are crediting a fast response for stopping a crawl space fire before it spread inside a home on Whiteoak Road Thursday afternoon.

According to officials, 2nd Shift firefighters arrived around 2:40 p.m. after reports of smoke coming from the property. When they reached the scene, responders found light smoke and quickly located the source of the fire in one corner of the home’s crawl space.

Crews were able to contain the flames and extinguish the fire before it caused major damage. No injuries were reported.

The department thanked neighbors for calling in the smoke and reminded homeowners to stay alert for signs of electrical or structural issues that can lead to hidden fires.
