A Berks County man was injured earlier this week when his dog jumped on the bed, accidentally causing a shotgun lying there to fire.

According to ABC News, the Shillington Police Department said they were called to a home along the 300 block of State Street in Shillington at about 11:13 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 for a report of a shooting.

Once there they found a 53-year-old man lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to his back. He was taken to a hospital where he immediately underwent surgery. The extent of his injuries and his current condition is unknown.

The victim told police that he had been cleaning the gun and put it on the bed. He then sat down on the bed. The dog then jumped up on the bed, causing the gun to fire into the man’s lower back.
