SPARTA, Tenn. (WSMV) - A convenience center at a White County landfill will be closing permanently after this weekend, according to county Executive Denny Robinson.
The convenience center at the landfill on Gum Springs Mountain Road will be closing permanently on Nov. 15. However, landfill operations will continue as normal.
Robinson said the decision to close the center was for resident safety. He said officials do not want families or individuals unloading trash around the heavy equipment used at the landfill.
“The risk of severe injury, or worse, is simply not worth it. Your safety is our top priority,” Robinson said.
At this time, the county is waiting on a state permit and working to get a new convenience center opened in the Gum Mountain Road area to replace the center.
