If the Inland Empire is Trump country, it has an odd way of showing it.

A year ago, President Donald Trump became the first GOP White House hopeful in 20 years to win Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

The milestone elated local Republicans, who have hopes of the purplish region turning red as the GOP outpaced Democrats in voter registration across dozens of Inland cities since 2020.

But this month, Proposition 50 — which redraws California’s congressional districts to favor Democrats and boost their chances of retaking the House of Representatives majority — passed both Inland counties, an outcome possibly owing to anti-Trump sentiment, shifting Latino voter attitudes or both.
