The U.S. Department of Justice is asking that former Louisville Metro Police detective Brett Hankison be released from federal prison while he appeals the 33-month sentence he received for firing shots during the 2020 raid that killed Breonna Taylor.
The request comes after DOJ attorneys — in a remarkable reversal from the position they took under President Joe Biden — argued earlier this year that Hankison should serve only a single day in prison.
