The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed running back Trey Sermon to their practice squad, the team announced. They released him from the active roster on Wednesday.

Sermon was released after playing one game on the active roster after he was elevated from the practice squad three previous times. He did so to help on special teams with multiple injuries, but the Steelers are expected to be much healthier this week.

Sermon stood out in the preseason, notching 50 yards on 10 rushes and a touchdown while adding eight receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Sermon was a former star running back at Oklahoma and Ohio State. When he came out during the 2021 NFL Draft, Sermon thought the Steelers would draft him, but that was before they landed Najee Harris in the first round.
