President Donald Trump has dropped his support for a nominee for the Department of the Treasury who had apparently suggested a former IRS official should be shot.

Trump made the announcement Friday afternoon via his Truth Social platform.

"Please be advised that I am withdrawing the nomination of Donald Korb to be Assistant General Counsel in the Department of the Treasury. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

Trump did not elaborate any further, Reuters reports.

It's unclear exactly which factors led to Trump's withdrawal.

In September, Sens. Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) questioned Korb during a Senate Finance Committee hearing about his negative comments about former IRS staffers, including Doug O’Donnell, according to Reuters. O'Donnell most recently served as an acting commissioner before he resigned in late February.

Wyden asserted that Korb apparently was talking about “the recent resignation of a career IRS official who served as acting commissioner,” and apparently told Senate Finance staffers that “the individual should have been shot for his decision to resign.”

MAGA influencer Laura Loomer this week wrote on X, accusing Korb of "praising" Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and claimed he donated to Democrats, including Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse.
