A Gloucester teenager’s slaying 37 years ago has been linked to a deceased Northern Neck man who has been tied to three other slayings around the same time period, the State Police said on Friday.

Alan Wade Wilmer Sr., who died in Lancaster County in 2017, has been connected by DNA evidence to the killing of 18-year-old Laurie Ann Powell, who was last seen walking on State Route 614 in Gloucester County after an argument with her boyfriend on March 8, 1988.

Through advanced testing, Wilmer “has been declared the person responsible for Powell’s homicide,” Virginia State Police Public Relations Director Robin Lawson said, with prosecutors confirming the evidence would be enough to charge Wilmer with first-degree murder if he were still alive.
